Stream restoration in Aurora restores the Aurora Branch of the Chagrin River

The City of Aurora restored a portion of the Aurora Branch of the Chagrin River on the former Aurora Golf Club.  This closed 18-hole golf course is located on 192 acres in Portage County.

The City removed a dam, restored 3,600 linear feet of the Aurora Branch of the Chagrin River and 691 linear feet of headwater stream, and restored 33 acres of existing mowed and manicured golf course to a forest riparian corridor and floodplain.  The section of the Chagrin River's Aurora Branch that flows through the former golf course did not meet water quality standards.  The project will fully restore the Aurora Branch.

This project was funded by the Ohio EPA’s Water Resources Restoration Sponsor Program (WRRSP) through cooperation with the Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District.  Click here for a full copy of the WRRSP Management Plan.  A baseline biological and water quality study was completed by Ohio EPA in 2012 and is available at http://epa.ohio.gov/Portals/35/documents/Aurora_Branch_TSD.pdf
