Before: Unfiltered stormwater flowed into Corporation Creek

After: Permeable pavement soaks water into the ground

Corporation Creek at Erie Road Park

Erie Road Park is owned by the City of Eastlake and is located on the bank of Corporation Creek approximately one mile south of Lake Erie. Our team has been working with the City of Eastlake and the Port Authority of Eastlake Ohio to achieve the goals that were outlined in the 2013 Erie Road Park Master Plan. In 2022, the city installed a permeable pavement parking area at the park to further improve public access to the Chagrin River and Lake Erie. The 3,170 square feet of permeable pavement and 1,125 square feet of bioretention complement other projects completed at the park in recent years, including a natural play area and an ADA-accessible canoe and kayak launch. The permeable pavement and bioretention allow stormwater from the parking area to soak into the ground and filter out pollutants rather than running off straight into Corporation Creek. We partnered with the City of Eastlake to secure funding for this project from the Cleveland Foundation, Western Reserve Land Conservancy Dominion Energy Mini-Grant Program, Ohio Department of Natural Resources Coastal Management Assistance Grant, Ohio Department of Natural Resources NatureWorks, Lakeshore Improvement Fund, Ohio Environmental Agency Section 319(h) Grant Program, State of Ohio Capital Fund, and donations from Process Technology and the Lubrizol Foundation. The city plans to further improve the park in 2023 by stabilizing eroding streambanks and installing a paved access road into the park.
